“Mental health for me means being able to remain calm and focused when under pressure, while maintaining a sense of perspective whether things are going well or not so well.
It’s about being able to bounce back when faced with a difficult challenge.
It’s about connection with family and friends, celebrating their success and achievements.
It’s about inviting others to join you in celebrating your own success and achievements, and helping you get over your disappointments.
It’s about self awareness, trying to live in the moment, not taking yourself too seriously and laughing as much as you can.
It’s about learning greater insights into both physical and mental health, learning from your failures and setting yourself demanding but not insurmountable challenges to provide a sense of purpose.
It’s about meditation, yoga, golf, going to the gym, walking, running, reading, playing the nine chords I know on the guitar in no particular order, good food, real ale and fine wine.
It’s about embracing life.”
Our good friend Stephen McAllister, Chair of Lifelink, NHS board member and ex-Divisional Commander of Police Scotland, tells us what mental health means to him.
Keep rocking Stephen, look forward to hearing those chords!
What does it mean to you?

Martin Stepek on Mental Health
“I don’t like the term “mental health” because it usually means a lack of mental health. I love a story about the Buddha’s view. He said there are many people who go through their entire life in good physical health, but very few people are mentally healthy even for a moment. That raises the bar […]
